A Message From Our CEO & Board Chair
Dear Friends,

As we reflect on another year at Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible progress we have made together. Our mission—to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare to the diverse communities we serve, regardless of a person’s ability to pay—remains at the heart of everything we do.

This year has presented both challenges and triumphs. The ongoing effects of the pandemic have highlighted the critical need for equitable healthcare access. We have adapted our services to meet these needs, expanding telehealth options and ensuring our facilities remain safe and welcoming for all. Our dedicated staff continues to go above and beyond, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to our patients and community. We could not be prouder of their efforts and achievements.

In the past year, we served over 9,450 patients, marking a remarkable 21% increase from the previous year. This growth reflects the trust our community places in us and the tireless efforts of our entire team. We are also strengthening partnerships with local organizations, particularly Boston Medical Center, which enhances our ability to serve our patients across family medicine, dental, and behavioral health departments. Additionally, our Veteran outreach center is expanding, providing crucial services to more Veterans and their families.

Looking to the future, we remain steadfast in our core values of compassion, excellence, and equity. We recognize that challenges lie ahead, but together, we will continue to break down barriers and foster healthier communities.

We extend our deepest appreciation to our entire staff, board members, partners, and supporters for your unwavering commitment. We invite you to join us in our ongoing efforts to create a healthier, more equitable world for all.

Best regards,

Charles A. Murphy, JD, MPA

Mass League Honors Jessica DaRosa with Community Health Center Employee Award
Havard Street’s Director of Operations, Jessica DaRosa was honored with the prestigious Employee Award by the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers at its annual gala this summer. This recognition is given annually to only two of more than 5,000 community health center employees in the Commonwealth. Jessica DaRosa stands out for her excellent leadership and managerial skills, which have enabled Harvard Street to better serve our community for many years.

The Love Boat docks at Harvard Street!
One of the most highly anticipated aspects of Mass League’s Annual Gala are the creative videos that each award recipient’s health center is asked to create. In honor of Jessica DaRosa (aka Julie McCoy) Harvard Street staff, including our own Captain Stubing, hit the decks in crew uniforms and “yacht attire” to transform the health center into The Love Boat — if only for a while!

A new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility for our future. The proposed 49,000 square foot, 3-story building will bring all of our key services under one roof — improving patient comfort and access while providing essential room for expanded programming.

We are in the design and fundraising process and anticipate starting construction in early 2025.

National Community Health Center Week

Every August, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) sponsors National Community Health Center Week — a week dedicated to highlighting the work of America’s 1400 community health centers. In celebration, Harvard Street hosted a patient appreciation Book Fest, with giveaway gifts, a scrapbooking craft table, free books for all ages, and a reading by visiting author Mel Gillespie.

Our staff packaged and distributed care bags for those experiencing homelessness in our community. The bags included health & beauty items, dental care products, and socks donated by Bomba. On Employee Appreciation day, staff enjoyed a free lunch of tacos by Taco Guy and gifts of appreciation from Harvard Street. We were especially grateful this year to be selected by NACHC for an event grant that provided funding for our Patient Appreciation Book Fest.

Second Annual Speaker Series

In March at Boston University’s City Space, Harvard Street held its 2nd Annual Speaker Series event — The Global Village: Standing Up for Tolerance & Inclusion with Rev. Cornell William Brooks, Harvard Professor and the 18th President & CEO of NAACP.

Reverand Brooks, a highly acclaimed speaker and civil rights leader, spoke eloquently and with passion on MLK Jr’s vision of a global village and how that might guide us today as we strive to be a welcoming healthcare home, overcoming systemic racism, healthcare inequities, and discrimination of any kind.

Harvard Street was also thrilled to present the President’s Award to Boston Public Health Commission’s Executive Director, Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, for her dedication to addressing racial and ethnic health disparities in Boston’s communities. It was truly a night to remember!
