The health center makes their services as accessible as possible by being open Monday through Saturday with evening hours three nights a week, offering ample time for the Dorchester community and beyond to receive comprehensive care in a safe, patient-centered environment. “A week does not go by when someone asks me about the artwork that adorns our work space. I am always thrilled to share the story of our partnership with The Art Connection and people are always intrigued to hear about their mission,” says President/CEO Charley Murphy.
OMap, handmade paper by Muriel Angelilfferings include pediatrics, family and internal medicine, adolescent clinic, women’s center with obstetrics and gynecological services, men’s center, a behavioral health department, and a dental clinic. Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center (HSNHC) also offers a wide range of support services from WIC to an on-site pharmacy, a food pantry, chronic illness care, STD testing and counseling, and assistance with transitional housing. Artwork is installed in the main entrance, along hallways, and in the waiting areas of the pediatric, dental, and family health departments.
HSNHC hosted a Health Meets Art Hour during National Health Center Week in August. They presented Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz, Chair of the Joint Committee on Education, and Representative Elizabeth Malia, Chair of the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse, the signatures collected by HSNHC for the Access Is the Answer campaign, launched to fight the deep health center funding cuts projected for fiscal year 2016. Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center collected the most signatures in Massachusetts and received recognition for their work. Congrats to them! Here are the photos we took at this celebration. It was great to share the artwork with Senator Sonia Chang Diaz and her staff.
